Fiddling Around

In what became my favorite memory of a family vacation, my uncle coaxed the owner of a Cape Cod pub to allow me and my equally underage cousins admission to an Irish jig. Despite the bar’s atmosphere, the event was remarkably family-oriented. If you’re looking for similar family-style fun that also benefits a worthy cause, try tonight’s Direct From Ireland: The Bridies -- Irish Concert and Community Fundraiser, with special guest comedian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, at Infinity Park Event Center, 4400 East Kentucky Avenue.

“First Kevin will come out and get everyone laughing, if they’re not already,” explains Pat McCullough, the event’s media contact. “Then the gang will come out and just play until everyone is exhausted. They’re a lot of fun and really high-energy. The two fiddle players could be out on your table playing in your lap. You get to hear the jigs and tunes that you associate with Ireland, but they’ll surprise you when, all of a sudden, they take off singing some dance tune from Motown.”

Tickets are $50 and include appetizers and a beverage served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., before the show starts at 7:30. Proceeds benefit the Metro Community Provider Network, which provides medical support for uninsured families and children in the Denver area.
