Ink Spills

There might be something familiar about the all-local cast and recognizable backdrops in Ink, a new independent feature by Denver filmmaker Jamin Winans of Double Edge Films, which premieres today at the Starz FilmCenter. But from that point on, the film diverges into a fantastical world: The key characters – a father, John, and his eight-year-old daughter, Emma – live through concurrent struggles and fight demons, both inner and literal, after a black-robed kidnapper-for-hire named Ink grabs her in the night and spirits her away into a not-too-friendly dreamscape peopled by evil incubi. Winans, who already won kudos locally and on the festival circuit for his last feature, 11:59, calls it more of a creative thriller than a creepshow, but you’ll have a good time forming your own opinion.

Ink premieres today for a two-week run with screenings at 4:30, 7 and 9:45 p.m. at Starz, Tivoli Student Union, Auraria campus, all featuring a post-film Q & A session with Winans (the director will be present after every screenings thorughout weekend, as well). Admission is $7 to $9.50; visit www.denverfilm.org or call 303-595-3456. For more about Ink the Double Edge site www.doubledgefilms.com.
