Meet in the Middle

American and Iranian artists explore each other’s cultures.

Explore the intersection of American and Iranian culture at Dialogue, a collaborative art exhibit presented by IRUS Art. The pieces on display were created by teams of artists split between the U.S and Iran, in media as diverse as paintings and interactive audio sculptures, and include a wall of works contrasting Mark Twain with Scheherazade.

“We were interested to see how we could see each other as individuals, as artists, and put away whatever is going on right now with our governments,” says Iranian-born, Denver-based artist Morehshin Allahyari, who coordinated the project. “I think that’s the most important thing, to work together and learn through this process of art-making.”

An opening reception with the artists — the locals in person, the Iranians via tele-presence — starts at 6 p.m. at Andenken Gallery, 2990 Larimer Street. A closing reception will take place March 28 at 5 p.m. For more info, call 303-941-8434 or visit www.irusart.org.
