For their first date, my dad took my mom, whose name is Sandy, to the drive-in to see Grease. The movie was a constant in my house. I watched it during every sleepover and listened to the soundtrack while I rollerskated in my basement. Im pretty sure I knew every line of dialogue as well as lyrics by the time I was old enough to speak. As a six-year-old, I was playing Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, singing, You better shape up, cause I need a man! into a hairbrush in the bathroom mirror. And today I cant think of a better way to escape my grown-up reality than a Grease Sing-A-Long.
We wanted to just make an evening of fun, says Denise Link, marketing director for the Colorado Chautauqua Association, which will host tonights sing-along. These are such interesting times we are living in . I think a lot of people are looking for a little bit of a break, an affordable break.
If theres anybody out there who doesnt already know the words (and shame on them!), the lyrics will appear on the screen. Pink Lady and T-Bird costumes are optional, and youre free to dance, should the mood strike. The movie starts at 7 p.m. in the Chautauqua Community House, 900 Baseline Road in Boulder; tickets are $8, $4 for association members. For more information, go to www.chautauqua.com.
