Wit and Wisdom

I’m always on the lookout for wise women, whether I’m hoping to emulate them or just wishing a bit of their knowledge might rub off on me. So I was excited to find the day-long Wise Women of the South West symposium, which was inspired by the photography exhibit Return of the Corn Mothers: A Photo Journal Exhibition of South West Women. The day is jam-packed with food, live entertainment (including the Asia Jazz Project and Michael Heralada’s award-winning performance storytelling), sacred Mana pottery displays, community information booths, panel discussions about wise women and their roles in society, and much more, including workshops on how to create and fund women’s events like this one. Best of all, the entire symposium is free, and when it ends, the organizers behind today’s event and Return of the Corn Mothers will travel to other communities and universities and teach them how to put together their own wise-women symposiums.
