Homeless Is Where The Heart Is

StandUp for Kids aims to reach out and touch someone.

Denver takes to the streets at 7 a.m. today as StandUp For Kids kicks off its fourteenth annual 48 Hours on the Streets event. The national nonprofit has a network of more than 5,000 volunteers across the country who reach out to homeless and at-risk youth in more than thirty cities.

In Denver, the volunteers — who are already out on the streets several days a week — will make a concentrated effort to find homeless kids (they estimate there are over 1,300 on the streets) and bring them to a “home base,” where they’ll feed them, give them clothes and provide other services. They’ll also take them to the University of Denver, where students are hosting a special educational event to help the homeless.
