Untitled Energy

The Denver Art Museum will jump again on Friday night.

Untitled, oh, how we’ve missed you. When the Denver Art Museum put you to bed for the winter, a spark went out of our lives. Though we continued to visit the DAM, it just wasn’t the same as viewing art during one of those accessible, wacky final-Friday happenings that were filled with the unexpected: theater in elevators, surprise tours, live music and DIY fun. It makes sense that it took an exhibit as cool as The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters From the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965-71to bring you back to life. Highbrow art scenesters will be tickled pink tonight when the DAM revives you for a six-month run with event #20: “Trip,” inspired by the aforementioned show.

“We decided to do six months really well,” says DAM spokeswoman Ashley Pritchard of Untitled’s abbreviated return, and tonight’s lineup owns up to that boast. Guests will have the opportunity to do some hands-on screen printing with design guru Rick Griffith of Matter Studio, to sing the body psychedelic to tunes spun by DJ Eddie B., and to dance their pants off to live music by Sweet Tooth Meat Tooth, Mike Marchant and Rob Drabkin. As in the past, Buntport Theater will present live theater in tight spaces, and, for a serious detour, Psychedelic curator Darrin Alfred and Native Arts associate curator Polly Nordstrand will host a mini-discussion of the exhibit from an unusual point of view.

Attend Untitled from 6 to 10 p.m.; entry is free with museum admission. Tickets for The Psychedelic Experience are extra, but students with ID can take advantage of a special one-night-only two-for-one deal. For details, go to untitled.denverartmuseum.org.
Fri., April 24, 6-10 p.m., 2009
