U.S.A. Today

Get your Passport to the United States stamped at an Alliance Foundation benefit.

World travelers are always nattering on and on about how fabulous it is to immerse oneself in the culture of another country. And that’s true, but there’s so much culture within the confines of this country that it’s not necessary to get your passport stamped to have a cultural experience.

At least that’s the idea behind the seventh annual Alliance Foundation fundraiser, Passport to the United States. “I just think that people are staying closer to home,” notes the foundation’s Karen Rosen. “There are so many fabulous places in the United States to highlight and focus on.” The event includes heavy hors d’oeuvre (think Tex-Mex, barbecue, New England clam chowder, Philly cheesesteaks and good old apple pie), California wines, a cash bar where you can purchase some Kentucky bourbon, and demonstrations from the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School of such American classics as swing dancing, line dancing and the jitterbug.

While you’re enjoying the atmosphere, check out the regionally themed options baskets in the silent auction — are you the New York City or Southern gift basket type? Tickets to the event are $50, with discounts available for groups of ten or more. The party goes down at the School of Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management on the University of Denver campus, 2044 East Evans Avenue, from 6 to 10 p.m.; for information, call 303-618-0427 or visit www.apwfoundation.org.
Fri., May 8, 6-10 p.m., 2009
