Adrian OrangeWednesday, May 13, Rhinoceropolis, 303-641-9809.By Tom MurphyPublished on May 06, 2009 at 9:58amPerhaps best known by his performing moniker, Thanksgiving, Adrian Orange has been gracing living rooms and other DIY stages for the past decade. Orange's sound is the type of avant-folk that inspires immediate comparisons to Phil Elverum of Microphones fame, who, as it happens, has been known to perform several Thanksgiving songs during his own live shows. Likewise, Orange clearly draws inspiration from the fragile beauty of Will Oldham's various projects and the warm yet intense tranquility of Bill Callahan's songwriting. Rather than merely hearing and imitating the music of those artists, however, Orange creates his own powerfully compelling personal mythology of the American socio-psychological landscape. Vocally and lyrically, he falls somewhere between a Beat blues singer and an indie-pop sage. Whether alone or with a full band, Orange never fails to execute a memorable performance.
