Altared StatesA new production features the worlds top Christian boy band.By Amber TaufenPublished on May 23, 2009 at 1:28amIf you could put together the perfect boy band, what would the elements be? Youd need a leader (Matthew); a sweet, sensitive singer (Mark); and since no boy band would be complete without a little taste of gangster, an edgy dude (Luke). A little bit of Latin lover (Juan) should help round out the mix, and just to top things off, you should include a nice Jewish boy (Abraham). Mix with some clean-cut Christian music, and voilà! Youve created the Altar Boyz, and the Jonas Brothers are already shaking in their boots. Well, stop dreaming. The band already exists sort of and their string of performances at Lannies Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street, opened last night and continues through June 27 on Friday and Saturday nights. Altar Boyz is basically a concert, says Evolution Theatre Companys Britta Risner. Basically, you have the five boys, and theyre part of the fictional although we kind of play them as non-fictional Christian boy band. The show takes place as the last show of their Raise the Praise world tour, so its kind of their final hurrah on their first tour around the world. As with any good boy band, theres plenty of drama involved, but the program is nevertheless suitable for practitioners of all religions. Tickets are $35; visit www.evolutiontheatredenver.com or call 303-293-0075.
