Can it be summer already? I don’t know about anyone else, but for me this winter was both brutal and interminable, and spring has been too wet and cold to offer much relief. Maybe it’s just the combination of expensive heating oil and living in a poorly insulated house, but I have never been more ready for sunshine, sitting on a patio, drinking beer and stuffing myself. Oh, and if there was some music playing? Even better.

Lucky for me (and you), that’s the exact recipe that Tambien’s Rockabilly and Ribs has cooked up for today and every Sunday through September 13. “This is the second season of doing it,” says DJ DogBoy, one of the organizers and a regular musical contributor. “Fifties rockabilly music, bands, Mexican barbecue, antique cars and bikes outside. Kind of what Cherry Creek isn’t is what this event is.”

Specifically, it’s lots of grilled carne asada, chipotle barbecue spare ribs and other south-of-the-border grilled specialties, along with sangria, “pick-six” beer specials featuring your favorite Mexican beers and a mix of live music from local and national bands (this week it’s Heidi and the Rhythm Rollers) and DJs spinning the classics.

The fun runs from 2 to 7 p.m. at Tambien, 250 Steele Street. There’s no cover most weeks, including this one. For more info, call 303-333-1763.
Sundays, 2-7 p.m. Starts: April 26. Continues through Sept. 13, 2009
