Filmmakers Richard Taylor and Zack Beins of Bizjack FlemCo Productions will shoot their first feature-length film in Denver this summer. And in the spirit of movies produced by Troma Entertainment responsible for the Lloyd Kaufman-directed, cult favorite Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead their Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer will be a zombie movie with no zombies, Taylor says. Huh?
Id rather not give the plot away, he explains. Except to say this: Atom is going to be like a cross between Dawn of the Dead and The Big Lebowski.
To raise money for their comedic, possibly bowling-themed zombie film without zombies, Taylor and Beins are hosting tonights Zombie Rock-A-Thon fundraiser at Benders Tavern, 314 East 13th Avenue. Besides a slew of bands Horse (with Uncle Nasty), Forth Yeer Freshman and Get Three Coffins Ready, among others the event features OdAm fEI mUd (a neo-Kabuki, samurai-gore, performance art group), burlesque dancer Lindy Starr and zombie films playing all night long. The 21-and-up Zombie Rock-A-Thon, which begins at 5 p.m., costs just $5; find more information at www.benderstavern.com or at www.myspace.com/atomthezombiekiller.
I just think people should come and support independent film, concludes Taylor. Come out and help produce an awesome zombie movie.
With no zombies.
