High on Highland

A market sprouts on Boulder Street.

With the restaurant scene in northwest Denver growing faster than the list of Nuggets season-ticket holders, it’s high time the Highland neighborhood had its own farmers’ market again.

"The neighborhood association has been talking about a market for over a year now," says HobNob Events’ Nicole Jarman, who is managing the Highland Neighborhood Farmers’ Market, which debuts today. "I feel markets truly bring a strong sense of community to a neighborhood. This is also a neighborhood that is incredibly supportive of their local environment — eating local, buying local, supporting local businesses. They are excited to walk down the street, see their neighbors and do their weekly shopping."

The last northwest Denver market was at the old Elitch Gardens; this one will take over the 1500 block of Boulder Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through October. Visit www.localsustainability.net to get more info — or just show up today with an empty satchel and stomach, and plan to leave with both very full.
Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Starts: June 6. Continues through Oct. 31, 2009
