When the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver absorbed Belmar’s Laboratory of Art and Ideas, it added a few twists to the Lab’s uber-popular Mixed Taste: Tag Team Lectures on Unrelated Topics, which mashes together two talks on completely different subjects, in the process uncovering unsuspected links between them. MCA Denver kicks off the next round of the series on June 5 with the strange-bedfellows pairing of “Show Tunes & Aquatic Plants,” featuring Mayor John Hickenlooper discussing the former and Kirk Johnson, vice president/chief curator at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, tackling the latter.

The new Mixed Taste features some tasty extras: It begins with Mixed Drinks from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture from 6:30 to 8, then a Mixed Grill dinner and an After Taste get-together at the rooftop MCA Cafe. There’s even a Mixed Kids addition, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

Fair warning: Mixed Taste lectures sell out quickly, and season passes for this summer’s series are already gone; tickets for individual events are $10 for members, $15 for the general public. MCA Denver is at 1485 Delgany Street; call 303-298-7554 or visit www.mcadenver.org for more information.
Saturdays, 5-10 p.m. Starts: June 6. Continues through Sept. 4, 2009
