At Denver Does Denver, some of the most talented and interesting musical projects in town will do an entire cover set of material by another Denver band or songwriter. With at least two dozen bands playing on four stages in two venues half a block apart (Old Curtis St. Bar and the Carioca Cafe), the event, hosted by Illiterate magazine on Saturday, June 6, promises to be a fascinating experiment in artistic interpretation – especially considering that the performers include talents as diverse as Ian Cooke, the Tanukis, Pictureplane (above), Slight Harp, Weird Turn Prose, Army of Summer and Married in Berdichev, to name just a few. While it seems unlikely that Milton Melvin Croissant III will cover Angels Never Answer or that Mike Neff will interpret Space Team Electra, Denver Does Denver should be full of pleasant surprises.
