Free to Be

Stretch yourself in Highlands Ranch’s Civic Green Park.

In Dharmic culture, there’s a concept called seva: Like Judaism’s tzedakah or Catholic charity, it’s the spirit of giving back to the community. For Nancy Levenson of NamasteWorks Yoga, the free ongoing Yoga in the Park Summer Series in Highlands Ranch is her annual act of seva. “It’s all about bringing in the morning in a peaceful way,” she says, and the town’s Civic Green Park, built with meditation in mind (it features a mind/body garden, massage labyrinth and Om stones among its many amenities), is the perfect spot for the hour of gentle yoga practice offered there twice weekly through the summer, with a special appeal for yoga novices.

“The bulk of the people who show up have never taken a yoga practice, and that’s who I want to appeal to,” Levenson says. “We get all kinds of people — all different body types, ages and genders.” The first event of the season drew more than 100 people, she adds. So what are you waiting for?

Levenson leads groups through their meditative moves from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. most Wednesdays and Saturdays through August 19, in the park, at 9730 Ridgeline Boulevard in Highlands Ranch; admission is free. For updates and information, visit www.namasteworksyoga.com.
Wednesdays, 8:15-9:15 a.m.; Saturdays, 8:15-9:15 a.m. Starts: May 27. Continues through Aug. 19, 2009
