The Artifacts of Life

This is it. Absolutely, completely it. Local brainstormer and design guru Jaime Kopke is heading off to grad school, and after this month, her hands-on Denver Community Museum (for which ordinary people and artists alike were challenged to submit artifacts on a theme for a public show) will be a thing of the past. But not before one last joy ride through town: The now-homeless DCM, relegated to the street after losing its already temporary gallery space, will take to the road in a pickup truck, with Kopke delivering the results of her last community challenge to various locations around town.

Tonight she drops by Mod Livin’, 5327 East Colfax Avenue, for a weekend of viewing. On display, possibly on easy-to-transport pegboards, will be Looking for Loci, an inter-city Denver-San Francisco challenge, featuring artifacts designed specifically to evoke personal “Genius Loci” (or, roughly, the spirit of favorite places) created by people from both cities. Mod Livin’ will help kick off the DCM swan song from 7 to 9 p.m. with over-21 sno-cones (pssst, they’re made with vodka) and merchandise discounts determined by Plinko chips; the exhibit remains on view through Sunday during regular store hours.

After that, Kopke says she has piggybacking plans for a few more stops, including one at Buntport Theater next weekend, coinciding with the final performances of The Squabble, another at Nine10Arts on Santa Fe Drive and possibly at a couple of public parks; go to www.denvercommunitymuseum.org for updates.
