Blown Away

The dandelion inspires an all-inclusive festival at MoonDance.

The dandelion is one of the most maligned, misunderstood flowers of all time, says Tonja Reichley of MoonDance Botanicals. Why? “All the parts of dandelions have medicinal and herbal benefits; it’s one of our favorite herbs.” And it’s why Reichley decided to name her festival Dandelion: A Celebration of Local Arts and Culture.

More About

The event will include local jewelers, bath and body products, sculpture, fiber arts and photography, plus interactive stations. Fancy Tiger has put together a crafting booth, and MoonDance itself is sponsoring an incense bar. You’ll also find a henna artist, moon readings, Tarot readings, reiki sessions and more. “There’s going to be a nice sampling of a lot of different modalities which people may or may not have heard of, or may or may not have tried,” Reichley notes. There will also be workshops, including sessions on yoga, summer solstice, container gardening, Ayurveda and more.

The word “dandelion” has many meanings, she adds. “It gives us self-confidence and self-esteem, it thrives in the midst of challenges, and it is wild and free. So we wanted to embrace all the messages and lessons of dandelions.”

Admission to Dandelion is free, and the activities are cheap, ranging from about $1 per minute for a Tarot reading to a minimal materials fee for some of the workshops. The festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the parking lot behind the store, at 601 Corona Street. Call 303-263-7275 or visit www.moondancebotanicals.com.
