Just as Capistrano has its swallows, Boulder has folk dancing: Its a sure sign that summer is here when Folk Dancing on the Plaza returns to the Boulder Municipal Plaza, between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue, adjacent to the fittingly exotic Dushanbe Teahouse on Tuesday nights. This years weekly community ruckus in the round, hosted by Boulders Postoley Dance Ensemble, began earlier this month, featuring dancing for all skill levels, with teachers knowledgeable in moves from around the globe to guide the way.
Nerdy? Beyond a shadow of a doubt. But its also good exercise and a free way to meet people on a breezy summer night; open dancing with instruction begins at at 7 p.m. and continues through 10 p.m. this evening (and every Tuesday through September 8). There are also four annual folk dancing nights for children and families scheduled in June and July: Step out with your youngsters from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Try it, youll like it.
Admission is free. Go to www.postoley.org of call 303-499-6363 for information.
Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m. Starts: June 2. Continues through Sept. 8, 2009
