In the press release that accompanies Weapon of Choice, Dangerous Nonsense lists one influence: human rights. Accordingly, it's clear the trio prizes social consciousness as highly as it does musical prowess. Many well-meaning bands, of course, have been hamstrung by giving their politics and their music equal billing; thankfully, Dangerous Nonsense balances both sides of the equation on the disc's five impassioned and intricate songs. Unlike some punk acts that pair revolutionary ideas with relatively backwards-reaching tunes, singer Shannon Webber, guitarist/bassist Harmony Davies and drummer Susan Miller lend Weapon a holistically progressive ethic that embraces art-metal inventiveness, tinges of tribalism and Webber's theatrical yet wholly raging vocals. And the lyrics? The patriarchy has rarely been ripped to shreds so poetically.
