Celebrate our nation’s independence by partying with a bunch of independent local businesses at the second annual East Colfax Super Block Party. The free festivities include music, art and a cupcake-eating contest sponsored by the Shoppe, but the highlight may well be the DIY Craft Fair. There you’ll find more than thirty vendors both selling handmade crafts and offering you the opportunity to create them yourself — everything from zines to screen-printing to buttons. And all of the projects will be cheap or free -- a nod to the times. “All of us are having a tough time with the recession, so we were like, ‘Let’s give something back,’” explains Tran Wills of the Fabric Lab. “People can come get cool things made and be part of the community.”

The party starts at 6 p.m. on and around the 3000 block of East Colfax, with the DIY Craft Fair at the parking lot of Rockbar, 3015 East Colfax. For more info, visit www.thefabriclab.com/events or call 303-321-3604.
