A Real Rojo

The Museo de las Américas does dinner and dancing right.

The Museo de las Américas is one of Denver’s cultural treasures, a museum that aims to promote the art of North and South America with a decidedly Latino slant. In line with this is the institution’s annual fundraising party, this year called Rojo Kermés. The unusual name comes from neighborhood celebrations held in Mexican-American communities right before Lent, but in the Museo’s case, it’s on tonight.

The event promises to be festive and will include cocktails and a silent auction slated for 6 to 7:30 p.m.; a dinner featuring Latin American foods runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m., and a live concert and dancing go from 9 to 10:30 p.m.

The music will be provided by Colombian electronic duo Monareta, which will showcase its unique sound that combines electro-cumbia — a kind of updated Latin disco — and influences from ’80s breakbeat and dub styles. Tickets for the entire package are $150 per person; admission to the concert only is just $25 a head.

Rojo Kermés takes place at St. Cajetan’s, on the Lawrence Street pedestrian mall on the Auraria campus. For more information, go to www.museo.org or call 303-571-4401.
