Dancing Machines

The Vail International Dance Festival soars to new heights.

Dancing has always been an integral part of the human experience, from tribal rituals thousands of years ago to the moonwalk — a gift given to us from the recently departed Michael Jackson — which defined dance for an entire generation. And when it comes to moving to the beat, the Vail International Dance Festival knows it can dance.

The fest kicks off today with performances by world-renowned tap star Savion Glover accompanied by Bare Soundz and the Otherz, and continues through August 11.

Glover appeared to sold-out Vail crowds in 2007, so get your tickets ($10 for kids, $17 for lawn seats and $55 to $75 for reserved seating) as soon as possible. While you’re at it, check out the rest of the programming, which includes UpClose sessions with Glover and the Miami City Ballet’s Edward Villella; the Festival Highlights Spectacular; performances by Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company (which also sold out in previous years); the specially priced Dance for $20.09 and much more. It all goes down up in Vail; for ticket prices and more information, visit www.vaildance.org or call 970-949-1999.
