Jet South takes off in the DTC with something for everyone

The Jet Entertainment Group has opened Jet South in the former Purple Martini DTC spot at 8000 East Belleview Avenue in Greenwood Village. While the Purple Martini was soaked in earth tones and purple lighting, Jet South is all about silvers, grays and black. Jordan Bullock, Jet's VP of marketing, says the company wanted to give Jet South the same upscale feel as the Jet Hotel (1612 Wazee Street), its flagship downtown.

Like Twenty, the private club in the basement of the hotel, Jet South has private liquor lockers for $1,500, stocked with ten bottles of premium liquor and perfect for business professionals who want to entertain clients, Bullock says. It also has two VIP seating areas on either side at the front of the club, as well as a bar on each side of the dance floor in the center of the room. Bullock says Jet is hoping to attract everyone from guys coming off the golf course to women who enjoy a glass of wine now and then to young business professionals who want to order premium cocktails in a high-end venue. And it has specials geared toward all of them: On Monday, men (and women) get $5 martinis and cigars; mojitos are $5 on Tuesday; bottles of wine are half off on Wednesday; Thursday is ladies' night all night; and if you upgrade to bottle service on Friday, you get a bottle of champagne and strawberries, too. Friday also features happy hours, with $2 off wine, $2 off gourmet appetizers, half off wells and half off specialty cocktails.

While the DTC Purple Martini is now just a memory, the Purple Martini in the Tabor Center parties on — although Jet did a slight remodel there, too.

Club scout: On Saturday, July 25, Sugar House (1395 West Alameda Avenue) is throwing its second annual Build Your Own Bikini Competition, which is all about making bikinis out of anything except clothing — body paint, plants, playing cards, candy, whipped cream...you get the idea. First prize is a trip to Jamaica or Las Vegas, second prize is a $100 gift card to Malibu Strings Bikini, and third prize is $50 cash.

For something completely different, the folks at Lupita's Restaurant and Showroom (11809 East Colfax Avenue in Aurora) claim to have the only Branson-style country-music dinner show in the area. Country singer and guitarist Rudy Grant and his band Branded perform every Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Soundpharmacy resident DJs Kaya and Tony K recently moved their Wednesday Headrush indie electro and breakbeat night from Bar Standard (1037 Broadway) over to Andrew's on Lincoln (1111 Lincoln Street). Down the street, Sutra (1109 Lincoln) hosts a black-and-white theme party on Tuesday, July 28. DJs Jesse James and Chapl will be spinning in the main room while DJs Curiosity, Ty Tek and Kanai spin in the room next to the patio. Ladies drink free until 11 p.m. — and everyone should wear black or white.
