Acting Out

Take a walk in the park with an unusual presentation of a child’s play.

With summer weather (finally!) settling in across the Front Range, people are doing everything they can to get outdoors, and Theatre-Hikes Colorado offers a truly unique way to take a traditionally indoor activity outside. This child-friendly take on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe takes audience members on a two-hour, scene-by-scene hike through Boulder’s Chautauqua Park. “It's the touring one-act version of the play, so it's Susan and Lucy when they are older recapping what happened when they were kids," says media contact Kimberly Downes. “They play all the roles as they tell the story.”

The actors walk along with the audience from place to place, performing each scene in a different location. The entire thing takes about two hours, with each scene lasting between five and fifteen minutes. “We don't want to take over one area of the trail for too long,” Downes explains.

The opening is today at 3 p.m. at the park, 900 Baseline Road, and runs every Saturday through September at the same time; tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids under twelve and members of hiking and mountain clubs. For more information, go to www.theatre-hikes.org or call 303-989-2385.
Saturdays, 3-5 p.m. Starts: Aug. 1. Continues through Sept. 26, 2009
