Wine in the City

Infinite Monkey Theorem provides First Friday refreshment.

Like the microbreweries that began dotting the landscape in the 1980s, small urban wineries are now showing up in cities around the country. They typically buy their grapes from a supplier and then make their wine on site. Denver’s Infinite Monkey Theorem, which makes both reds and whites, is a perfect example.

“We make ten varietals and secure our grapes from the Western Slope and Oregon,” says spokeswoman Kate Lacroix. “Some Colorado wines are pretty terrible, but our wine has been getting a lot of national attention.” What better time to taste this ripening urban winery trend than during First Friday: Art Under the Influence? With its First Friday-friendly location at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Santa Fe Drive, the Theorem is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a glass of wine, the sounds of DJ Ginger and light bites from Masterpiece Delicatessen. “We wanted to give people a place to come either before or after they started their walk,” says Lacroix. “The galleries are for perusing and buying, but here’s where you can really let your hair down.” Doors open at 5 p.m., and admission is free.
