Drunkdriver

Monday, August 10, Glob, 303-641-9809.

Anyone trying to make challenging music that pushes the boundaries of what can still be considered music is going to have to do more than just hash together established genres. That's what makes New York's Drunkdriver stand out. Not only does this band piece together elements of punk, noise and power electronics, but its songs resemble those of an industrial-influenced collage-pop band. If David Yow had joined a noise band, the result might be similar to the splintery drive and ragged outrage embodied by the best of this outfit's sonic collisions. Whether covering Christian Death and coming off like Greg Sage in an especially desperate mood or the jagged, avalanche blasts of its original material, Drunkdriver combines the avant-garde with punk's adrenalized rush.
