You want the rock? The Outta Controllers bring the rock. All kinds — garage, metal, punk, maybe even a little bit of post-punk and hardcore. And while this omnivorous appreciation of all things loud and fast is both admirable and functional, a little bit of focus could go a long way to clarify the band's intentions and gel its sound. Not to say that the songs are bad or that some element isn't working — that's not the problem. It all comes out tough and goes down easy, but the slightly scattershot approach to rock's varied history suggests this is a band more interested in paying homage to its predecessors than carving out a niche for itself. Given the obvious talent here, settling for homage would be a shame.
