Mile High Low Life
Fivecore

Few rock compilations anymore come with mission statements. But Fivecore Records' Mile High Low Life isn't afraid to wear its puke on its collar: The disc full of Denver punk was recorded in ten-hour bursts by engineer Bart McCrorey at his Motaland Productions and includes a few paragraphs outlining the fun, passion and grit that went into its 28 tracks. Like the three Undead in Denver comps that preceded it, Low Life showcases bands that are willfully oblivious to the fact that punk continued to evolve past 1995. But that's what makes groups like the Dead Kennedys-esque Truckasaurus and the Social Distortion-indebted Reno Divorce so at home here: This is comfort-food punk that flies in the face of Denver's recent trend toward pretentious, preening indie rock.
