Back at Ya

Radoslaw Konopka, Christopher Thomas Gilkey and onetime Denverite Kristin Arnesen are Theatre Reverb, a Brooklyn outfit that’s not only familiar with the fringe circuit, but hosts the ongoing Floating Kabarette performance series/cabaret at New York’s open-minded Galapagos Art Space, where anything might happen, from aerial dance to neo-burlesque. Here for the Boulder International Fringe Festival, they’ll be mixing up pop-culture relics, social issues and physical theater, along with a good bit of superfluous food, in their multimedia show Bonne Nuit Poo Poo, which employs Mad Max films as a springboard into a morass of end-of-the-world-movie metaphors.

“We use a lot of modern techniques, but we’re also definitely making fun of our own avant-garde devices,” Arnesen says of Reverb’s style. “We’re a mix of high art and lowbrow potty humor.” Some of that high art derives from the integration of East Indian dance moves into the performance, since she studied the style firsthand when she traveled to India. “We use stylized facial expressions and isolations, such as eyebrow-only movements, as well as hand gestures,” she explains.
