Playing With Dolls

Every woman envies pin-up girls — beauties basking in male attention, making coy faces with those big doe eyes and stretching those impeccable figures into flirtatious poses. We envy them for obvious reasons: because we want to be them, of course — lovely and girly, rejoicing in female sexual empowerment without giving away any of the goods…but still acting like we might, one day, if the stars align and we’re feeling generous.

Well, ladies, we can now put those green-eyed monsters to rest, thanks to Jim Narcy. The photographer’s Bring Your Own Beauty Pin-Up Contest took a bartender, a burlesque dancer, a Rocky Mountain Roller Girl, a college graduate and a cheerleader/rock star and turned them into pin-ups. The girls were chosen by cash vote — “It’s a popularity contest,” Narcy admits — and the contest raised money for the Rocky Mountain USO.

Tonight at Paper Dolls: A Pin-Up Party at the Ginn Mill, 2401 Larimer Street, you can see the artwork created by Narcy, enjoy burlesque entertainment and meet the girls themselves, since they’ll put on a fashion show featuring locally designed clothing. (You can even get a limited-edition poster of your favorite pin-up signed by the lady herself.)
