Ive never been crazy enough to run a half-marathon especially not one on a freakin mountain, and especially not a fourteener but if I ever did reach that level of insanity, and if I actually managed to finish, here would be the first two things Id want when it was all over: food and beer. Preferably lots of both. And perhaps some relaxing background music to accompany the washing away of my aches and pains.

So you can see the appeal of todays Mt. Sneffels Half Marathon, which takes place alongside the second annual Grillin Chillin Thrillin Music and Brew Fest in beautiful Ouray. We just sort of decided we wanted to have a festival in town, explains spokeswoman Karen Avery of the fests inception, and we decided that we wanted a brew fest, and we picked the same weekend as the race so theres an opportunity for people to do other things. Besides running, that is. Thirteen microbrews are lined up to provide sips and giggles; there will also be food, live music, and a bouncy castle for the kids.
The entry fee for the half-marathon is $30, and the race begins at 7:30 a.m. The brewfest kicks off at noon and goes till 6 p.m.; admission is $20 if youre drinking, $5 if youre not. Call 970-325-4746 or visit www.ouraycolorado.com for information.
