Imagine lower Larimer Street lined for three straight blocks with dozens, nay, hundreds of cherry pre-1973 hot rods, street rods, rat rods, muscle cars, custom bikes and just about anything classic and tricked out on wheels. The very thought of all that shiny, retro horsepower is enough to make me wax excitable — how about you? That scenario aims to come true, in candy-apple living color, beginning at 1 p.m. today, when the second annual Carnage on Larimer turns three blocks of Larimer, from 30th to 32nd streets, into a parking lot from another time. Possibly a better time.

“The biggest highlight last year was just the number of neat cars that came out,” notes event organizer (and pin-up photography specialist) Sam Abraham. We had a couple of old-school gassers and some late-’50s dragsters that hadn’t been out in years. A lot of really nice specialty cars come out for this show.” Throughout the afternoon, a bevy of competing cars will be on display to the tune of live music by Brethren Fast, Audio Flux and others, while vendors hawk period-themed wares. After 7 p.m., the family-friendly car show, hosted by Abraham’s Hollywood Calling Photography and the Evil Souls Car Club, will segue into an over-21 VIP event inside Abraham’s studio, with pin-up girls in ’50s attire and burlesque performances.

Car show admission is free. There’s a $12 fee to enter a car; registration begins at 10 a.m., and proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Get a full schedule of events at www.carnageonlarimer.com.
