Rockie Roll

It’s been a wild season for the Colorado Rockies, the kind that had fans cursing the club before the All-Star Break and jumping on the bandwagon after it. In fact, the Rockies have won more games than any other National League team since Jim Tracy replaced Clint Hurdle as the manager on May 29. Will it be another Rocktober?

At the moment it could go either way, as our boys of summer battle for the National League’s lone wildcard spot and a whiff of fall ball. But Todd Helton, Troy Tulowitski, Dexter Fowler, Ubaldo Jimenez and the rest of the crew have something to prove: namely that 2007’s World Series appearance against the Boston Red Sox wasn’t a fluke, and maybe now they have a manager who can carry them the distance. After an up and down road trip, the Rockies return home today for the first of a three-game stand against National League West rivals – and potential spoilers – the San Diego Padres. After that, they’ll face the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers for three games a piece, all at Coors Field.

And whether they make the playoffs or not, there’s hardly a better place to be on a crisp September evening than the ballpark, beer and hotdog in hand. Tonight’s game gets underway at 6:40 p.m. at Coors Field, 2001 Blake Street. Tickets prices vary greatly; log on to http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com for information.
Tue., Sept. 22, 6:40 p.m.; Wed., Sept. 23, 6:40 p.m.; Thu., Sept. 24, 6:40 p.m., 2009
