Kirk Brown and Jill Wiltse were already art collectors and exhibition sponsors when they recently added another label, that of film supporters, with their founding of Design Onscreen the Initiative for Architecture and Design on Film. The group is headed up by Heather Purcell, and its latest effort is tonights presentation of Infinite Space: The Architecture of John Lautner, a film directed by Murray Grigor. Lautner was a protegé of Frank Lloyd Wright, but hes somewhat forgotten today, notes Brown, and after he broke off from Wright, he developed a distinctive vision.
The evening starts with a reception at MAD Wine Bar from 5 to 6 p.m., with the film screening at 6 in the Sharp Auditorium at the Denver Art Museum, 100 West 14th Avenue, followed by a Q&A session with director Grigor and cinematographer Hamid Shams. A ticket for both the reception and the film and discussion is $25; there are also $150 tickets that include a post-premiere party on the rooftop of the swank Museum Residences, as well as a tour of the Martin collection of contemporary art, just a floor down.
