Fright Nights

Halloween is sneaking up on us, but don’t let that scare you too much. Instead, enjoy the dark side every Tuesday night from now through November 17 during the International FrightFest Film Series at the Denver Central Library, where films from Sweden, Germany, Spain and South Korea will show you why people in those countries are keeping their lights on.

Tonight at 6 p.m. is Let the Right One In, a Swedish vampire flick directed by Tomas Alfredson. Next week will be Nosferatu from 1922, the original German vampire movie directed by F.W. Murnau. And on November 3, it’s Pan’s Labyrinth, the realistically gruesome Spanish film written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. Everybody loves a deadly lake monster, but how about a river monster? Get swallowed alive when The Host, from South Korean director Joon-ho Bong, screens on November 10. Capping the series of screams and squirms is Cloverfield, directed by Matt Reeves, on November 17.

Admission is free and each evening will include a post-film discussion; for more information, go to www.denverlibrary.org/programs/october/film.html.
Tuesdays, 6-9 p.m. Starts: Oct. 20. Continues through Nov. 17, 2009
