With the air turning crisp and the leaves changing colors, fall is a great time to run. So why not a marathon? The starting gun will signal the fourth annual Denver Marathon on Sunday, October 18, but related events go on all weekend long: On Friday and Saturday, the public was welcome to check out the Target Health & Fitness Expo, featuring health and wellness products and services, at the Colorado Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“As a state, Colorado has one of the highest numbers of competitive runners,” says Denver Marathon media specialist Trish Bennett. “This gives us a chance to showcase our city landmarks as well as provide a marathon for all these people.”

The official start time for the race is 7 a.m. today, and all competitions, including the marathon, half-marathon and the ING marathon relay, start and finish on Broadway in front of the State Capitol. The course itself leads runners past the Denver Public Library, the Denver Art Museum, Coors Field, Union Station, the Museo de las Américas and other notable landmarks.

Free live music begins at 8 a.m. on race day in Civic Center Park with 49 Floors and Opie Gone Bad. The weekend winds up with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. For course information, street closures and a schedule of events, visit www.denvermarathon.com or call 1-888-RUN-5280 Ext. 5.
