What could possibly be better than an all-showtunes karaoke night? How about Showtunes Karaoke with a burlesque performer emcee such as Denvers own Cora Vette, aka Reyna Von Vett and female impersonators bringing back the ghosts of divas past? Thats the idea behind a collaboration between JRs Bar & Grill and the Denver Public Librarys Fresh City Life, which is hosting this party tonight in anticipation of a separate celebration, called Awful Things in Denver, on Friday, October 30.

You can get in the mood for Awful Things another drag-heavy event featuring burlesque performers, derby girls, vaudeville acts, female impersonators and a screening of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? presented by Bette Davis impersonator Matthew Martin tonight at JRs. Im guessing its going to be very diva-heavy, only because Cora Vette is our host, says the librarys Chris Loffelmacher. It is for everyone, though. Everyone who enjoys karaoke, drag queens and showtunes, that is and who doesnt?
Were going to try to bring in some ringers, adds Loffelmacher. Some guys from the Denver Gay Mens Chorus are going to come and sing. So theyll probably pick full-on showtunes. Fabulous! Stop by JRs, 777 East 17th Avenue, tonight at 9 p.m. to enjoy the free show and possibly win tickets to the Awful Things main event.
