Kosher Culture

This year’s sixteen-day JAAMM Festival (that’s short for Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies and Music) at the Mizel Center for Arts and Culture is just as JAAMM-packed as it sounds. The extraordinary cultural cornucopia will take off from its early origins as a festival of books and authors by not only offering twenty Jewish-centric book signings, but by hosting concerts, films and art exhibits, to boot. And at its heart, the center’s 43rd annual book sale will run throughout (and a couple days longer), daily except Saturdays, beginning today and continuing through November 18.

Other festival highlights include a couple of de rigueur Jewish food-related talks, with Einstein’s Bagels maven Noah Alper (a 7:30 a.m. breakfast on November 10) and Save the Deli author David Sax (what else? — a deli luncheon at noon on November 13); an exhibit detailing early Denver’s Jewish history; a concert with the Israeli worldbeat aggregate the Idan Raichel Project at DU’s Newman Center; a comic evening with comedienne/author Carol Liefer and a family-friendly Fiddler on the Roof sing-along, to name a few.

The Mizel Center is at 350 South Dahlia Street, in the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center; for a complete schedule, ticket information or to make reservations, go to www.maccjcc.org or call 303-316-6360.
