Election day is right around the corner, and thats downright spooky. That message will be taken to the hilt tonight when New Era Colorado and Deproduction/Denver Open Media host a volunteer Trick or Vote canvassing event, followed by a blowout Media Monster Halloween Bash at DOM Studios, 700 Kalamath Street.
Rob DuRay of NEC says election canvassers who show up at 3:30 p.m. will receive training before heading out to neighborhood streets to go door-to-door, but theres a twist to this political action: Today, volunteers will be soliciting votes in costume. And why not? Its Halloween, right?
At 8 p.m., participants will be rewarded with what could be the most unique party in the city, a media-themed event that official party planner Andrew Novick says will have everything from a Vampire Biting Booth you get a nip in the neck rather than a kiss to a green-screen area where partiers can interact with classic horror films. This party is entertainment across the board, Novick says. Its not just standing in a bar watching a band; its more of a total interactive experience. Throw in the cereal bar, DJs, haunted warehouse rooms, costume contest (in such categories as Best Political Costume or Best Media-Related Costume, as well as a general class) and the fact that the whole thing will be televised on Comcast cable channels 56 and 57 and you can control the cameras yourself, and the place will, to put it simply, rock.
Canvassers will get a free party-admission voucher, but the public is also invited; tickets are $15 in advance at www.denveropenmedia.org/mediamonsterbash, or $20 at the door. For information on volunteering, go to www.neweracolorado.org. Susan Froyd
