Less a band than a loose agglomeration of musicians engaging in a performance-art piece, Spellcaster's Rock 'n' Roll Time Travel Committee (due at Rhinoceropolis on Friday, October 30) brings the danger back to an indie-rock show like few have since the Kindercide last performed. Spellcaster puts aside his usual noise tricks and fronts the band, keeping it in line with harsh verbal abuse that serves as de facto lyrics for any of the "songs" the Committee perpetrates on the audience. Some bands crash into a sonic apocalypse at the end of their set. Some destroy instruments. These guys not only misuse their equipment, but also put each other in peril and make for some tense and electrifying moments from the minute they start performing. While not strictly musical, the Committee reminds us that rock shouldn't be entirely safe.
