Raise Your VoxBy Amber TaufenPublished on November 04, 2009 at 1:00amThe womyn at Vox Feminista have legacy on the brain. No surprise there, considering 2009 marks the twentieth year that Vox has been comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable with its unique brand of activist theater. And the performers are pulling out all the stops with The Velocity of Outrage, this years production. I think the thing that stands out for me the most in this psychedelic blur is that were better than we used to be in our activism and our on-stage presence, and were putting out a message, says eighteen-year Vox veteran Oak Chezar, who sat down with her fellow feministas to view the tapes of the 38 past Vox shows that eventually shaped Outrage. This years show, Chezar notes, is about what we leave behind. About health insurance, about gay rights and queer issues, about plastic, about technology and the machines, about the downsides and the liberation from technology that is necessary. This is our country, this is our world, this is our life, and we cant just sleepwalk through it and trust that somebodys going to take care of us, Chezar adds. Catch Outrage tonight at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California Street, and at various other locations in Denver and Boulder through December 19. Admission is on a sliding scale.
