One of the region's most extensive holiday sales, the Foothills Art Center Holiday Art Market, has downsized a bit, says market manager Jen Thario, but that will be no loss to the appreciative throngs who visit the sale each year. “We’re going for a high-end fine-art look, as well as a whimsical and fun quality,” she explains, noting that in planning the market, she especially looked for high-quality work and, in the process, a lot of new blood. Wares, which include everything from greeting cards to framed art and sculptural pieces, are priced from $3 to $1,000 and everywhere in between. You’ll also find a large variety of jewelry and ornaments (“These are not your standard glass balls,” Thario boasts) and, in a special apothecary room, handmade soaps and herbal items.

The market debuts at tonight’s preview reception, 5:30 to 8 p.m., and remains open daily, through December 30 (holidays excepted), at Foothills, 809 15th Street, Golden. Admission is free, and special events scheduled throughout the run include two meet-the-artists sessions, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 21 and December 5, and a free kids’ craft day, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. December 12.
