Get ready for a wild ride tonight when Communikey @ BMoCA, a concert/dance party/art happening takes over the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. The bands we are hosting are all genre-bending multi-instrumentalists, and because its not in a normal venue, we can do some different things with the space, and it doesn't quite feel like just a show," explains Kate Lesta, creative director of Communikey. "The upstairs will have a whole vaudevillian circus feeling to it."
Upstairs you'll hear the sounds of Ukulele Loki's Gadabout Orchestra, AU and the Dovekins (formerly the New Denver Orchestra). The west gallery will showcase the sounds of the Communikey resident DJ crew Josh23, Alala. One, Attentat and Brandon Brown. Then there's a silent auction, with everything from a night's stay in a beachfront villa in Puerto Vallarta to original art from the likes of Bryce Widom, Jake Johanson and others. And then there are indoor and outdoor projections, interactive installations, shadow puppets pretty much everything short of dancing bears (they couldn't get the bears in time). And it's a joint fundraiser for the two organizations the first of what they hope will be many. "We've been working with the museum since we started the festival," Lesta says. "It just made sense. I've always loved the building, and it's healthy for community organizations to work with arts institutions; we serve each other. I'm hoping to see it become an annual event."
It happens from 7 p.m. to midnight tonight at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, 1750 13th Street in Boulder. Tickets are $15 and include hors d'oeuvres from Whole Foods, Mateo, Radda and Bacaro. For more info, visit www.communikey.us or www.bmoca.org or call 303-443-2122.
