John Fogerty

Monday, November 16, Buell Theatre, 1-877-234-8425.

To many, Creedence Clearwater Revival founder John Fogerty is second only to Bruce Springsteen when it comes to roots-fueled Americana. Those folks got a real treat this August when Fogerty released The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again, an album of cover songs that included a duet between him and the Boss — a joyously gritty rendition of the Everly Brothers' "When Will I Be Loved." The whole album was a reprise of Fogerty's 1973 solo album, The Blue Ridge Rangers, and the new tribute disc follows along with loving homages to everyone from John Prine to Buck Owens, with the Eagles' Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmidt also guesting. Fogerty — who's touring in support of his new concert DVD, Comin' Down the Road: The Concert at Royal Albert Hall is sure to sprinkle lots of favorites by other artists into his set Monday at the Buell, as well as striking up plenty of CCR classics like "Fortunate Son," "Proud Mary" and "Who'll Stop the Rain." The only thing the show will be lacking is, well, Springsteen. But that's okay. When it comes to gruff, yearning, angry, honest rock and roll, Fogerty more or less wrote the book.
