Masters of Mambo

Who in the Denver area doesn't remember Cabaret Diosa's joyful mambo rock with pleasure? If you ever saw the band play live, then you already know about its infectious stylings and intoxicating energy. If you didn’t, take a tip from us: Head to Swallow Hill, 71 East Yale Avenue, tonight at 8 p.m. for Naughty Pierre's Mambo Burlesque & Magic Extravaganza, featuring Familia Diosa, a reincarnation of the Cabaret Diosa family featuring vocalist Kim Franco, instrumentalist Dario Rosa and more of your old favorites. They'll provide the backdrop for burlesque performances by the Clocktower Clockettes, including Fannie Spankings, Midnite Martini, Tatianna TaTa and the lovely Miss Orchid Mei, all set to the inimitable mambo rhythm of the Diosa clan. And when the lovely ladies leave the stage, you'll be entertained by Professor Phelyx's prestidigitation and mentalist skills; Naughty Pierre will emcee the entire production.

"It's the only time and place you'll see Familia Diosa playing live with burlesque dancers," says Swallow Hill's director of concerts David Weingarden. "It's a one-night only event, not to be repeated anywhere else!"

The show is campy and naughty rather than dirty or lewd — but still not recommended for the under-eighteen or overly conservative crowd. Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 day of show, with a $2 discount for Swallow Hill members. Call 303-777-1003, ext. 2, or visit www.swallowhillmusic.org to get yours.
Sat., Nov. 21, 8 p.m., 2009
