Beating the Drumsticks

When the Broncos face off against the New York Giants tonight, it will be the first time since 1963 — and only the third time ever — that Denver has hosted a Thanksgiving game. And that’s awesome. Significantly less awesome, the Donkeys have never won a Thanksgiving game at home and are 3-7 all-time on Turkey Day. Given the ups and downs of the season thus far, a tryptophan coma alone doesn’t seem drastic enough to numb the pressure or quell the anxiety that fans will no doubt be feeling come game time at 6:20 p.m. — to say nothing of the mood swings that will accompany the eventual outcome. Gosh: If only there were a way to self-medicate with spiked eggnog and free pumpkin pie in a hip-yet-comfortable downtown setting.

Oh, wait.

The Thanksgiving Day Turkeybowl After Party at Oak Tavern, 1416 Market Street, will write that prescription and more, from kickoff to close.

“It’s a big, big, big, big deal,” says the Oak’s Sara Livingston of the Broncos’ first Thanksgiving home game in 46 seasons. And so is the fact that every other Lotus Concepts club will be closed tonight so that employees can party together at the Oak. “Come share Thanksgiving with the Lotus family,” Livingston urges. “Our staff are so fantastic, they’re practically famous!”
