Holiday Shift

Jimmy Sellars recognizes that it’s tough to run a gallery during the holidays, when everyone’s focus turns to affordable gift shopping rather than high-end art. So in December, many galleries compensate by hosting de rigueur art markets or miniature shows. But not Sellars. At least, not exactly.

“I wanted to create something mobile, where we could bring different businesses to this neighborhood, thereby cross-marketing the city,” says Sellars, a fixture on Tennyson Street who can also be found at www.sellarsprojectspace.com. That desire was the genesis of Boutique in a Box, a series of changing arty events scheduled on weekends throughout the holiday shopping season. This weekend, it’s a show that features members of the Colorado BeadCluster, a loose congregation of bead artists working in glass. The event, which runs tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. and continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, highlights ready-to-wear jewelry creations by seventeen artists as well as live, lamp-working demonstrations and gift wrapping of all sales (proceeds benefit a local charity).
