Hello, Dalí

In this age of digital art and computer graphics, Salvador Dalí's art still stands ahead of the crowd in terms of sheer weirdness, perfectly executed. And right now, you don't have to take a long trip to see Dalí's work live and in person; just head up to the Loveland Museum/Gallery, 503 North Lincoln Avenue in Loveland, to check out the Dali Illustrates Dante's Divine Comedy exhibition, a series of wood engravings produced from watercolor paintings by the surrealist. There’s also an exhibition of selected work on loan, including books and other illustrations in their original format, as well as Philippe Halsman Photographs of Salvador Dali, iconic images of the master artist.

But one of the main attractions is a side exhibition opening today: Twirling Dali's Mustache features artwork by regional artists in tribute to Dalí. "We have a very impressive group of artists in our area, so we really wanted to make the connection with the local artists and the artistic, historical influence of Dalí," says curator Maureen Corey.

The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. December 11; the show is on display through February 14. Call 970-962-2410 or visit www.ci.loveland.co.us for a full list of programming surrounding the Dalí exhibit, including talks by world-renowned Dalí expert (and Denver native) Elliot King.
