Pipe Dreams

Copper Mountain has opened its lifts, and one of the best ways to kick off the ski and snowboarding season is with the US Snowboarding Grand Prix, which includes men’s and women’s half-pipe competitions. This is the second time Copper has hosted the event — the first stop for the Olympics — with its 22-foot half-pipe. “Having an Olympic-quality pipe ready in early December shows the commitment Copper has to delivering a quality event,” says resort spokesman David Roth. “People can come see the best folks in the world compete. It should be spectacular for everyone to come out.” Watch competitors such as Shaun White, Kelly Clark, and Hannah Teter along with Colorado Olympic medalists Gretchen Bleiler, JJ Thomas and Steve Fisher. Or hit the slopes yourself: Copper will keep as many runs open to the public as possible.

The competition runs today and again on December 12. For information, including directions to the resort, call 1-866-841-2481 or log on to www.coppercolorado.com.
